The Human Security Collaboratory

The Human Security Collaboratory addresses critical gaps within the human security space by focusing on the impacts of digital technology creation and use within individual and community life. By raising questions about digital technology’s societal impact, HSC uses critical praxis and scholarship to evaluate the complex realities of a networked world. HSC's work is demonstrated through responsive technology design, critical artmaking practices, and written scholarship that collectively engage industry and community partners to improve individual and community life both online and off.

The anticipatory and justice-oriented methods focus primarily on the following six areas:

  • digital civil rights
  • online privacy and harassment
  • information harvesting and algorithmic bias
  • biosensory devices and wearable technologies
  • data disenfranchisement
  • equity in technology education and employment
